Dr. Sten Vermund is an internationally recognized pediatrician and infectious disease epidemiologist, currently serving as the Dean of the USF Health College of Public Health and Senior Associate Vice President of USF Health. He is also the Chief Medical Officer of the Global Virus Network.

His research focuses on diseases in low- and middle-income countries, with a long-standing emphasis on HIV/AIDS prevention and health care access, particularly for adolescent and maternal-child health. Dr. Vermund’s early work on HIV-HPV interactions influenced a change in the 1993 CDC AIDS case definition. He previously served as the Dean of the Yale School of Public Health and has founded non-governmental organizations like the Centre for Infectious Disease Research in Zambia (CIDRZ).
